Women's day?

If we have a Women's Day, where's Men's Day?  I had messages flowing in since morning wishing me a very Happy Women's Day. With all due respect and thanks, I still want to question the gesture, this particular 'Women's Day' and the entire hoo haa that's surrounding it.

I admit to being a feminist, a liberal feminist.

To all those who think I'm being radical and probably think I'm going to say the cliche, 'Aren't we awesome every other day?' I'm not.

I just want to ask why is there an absence of 'Men's Day?' Why do women find the need to have a special day to celebrate their womanhood? Are we more of a woman today? Is it safer, better, nicer to be a woman today? Why should it be the 8th of March where the newspapers be almost entirely pink and decide to mention the things women have achieved? Is there no Men's Day because they don't need one? Is it because we live in a patriarchal society, because everyday is a man's day? Aaarghhh!

I will celebrate Women's day the day there is a Men's day.

I also want a 'We're All Human' day.

I'm a girl and I absolutely love being one every waking day.

  4. Yep...i was thinking exactly the same this morning while seeing all my messages! ... so yes... I guess it is a way to question the status of woman today which is still discriminated in most parts of the world...but at some point it has the contrary effect!so instead... let's have a "anti discrimination day", "equality day"....or as you said "we;re all human day".... :)

  6. It's kind of like a birthday- everyone says Happy Birthday- does that mean we're not supposed to be happy on other days of the year??
We have a day to celebrate the awesomeness that is womankind! Why not enjoy it instead of questioning why it exists? So men don't have a day, boo hoo. Maybe because they don't deserve it.

  7. its because women have always had to fight for their importance and men have just had it anyway. so women are more prone to being insecure. not all but there are some women who just feel more secure living in a society where atleast for a day women are commended for being women and also for all their efforts aimed at an egalitarian world (but ironically by doing so are defeating the purpose).
